My research focuses on language and literacy development, complex systems, educational assessments, and teacher/practitioner education. I am specifically interested in how different aspects of educational networks, including assessments, support or constrain student learning and teacher growth. I am fortunate to be a part of several research teams all centered on exploring and promoting equity in educational spaces, ranging from the experiences of newcomer children and families in early childhood educational spaces, to the teaching and learning experiences of pre-service and current early childhood educators and K-12 teachers. Most recently, I have begun working on a research project wherein I use a systems lens to examine K-12 teacher beliefs about multilingualism and how best to support newcomer multilingual learners in Nova Scotia, and what aspects of their educational systems constrain or enhance their practice.
