Bio

My research focuses on language and reading development, as well as learning difficulties among English language learners. Specifically, I study how children learn to read in different languages with various orthographies. My work also investigates affective reading interventions that assist in addressing early learning and reading challenges. Additionally, I manage a program outside Canada that trains elementary teachers in the "Principles of Teaching Literacy in an ESL context." My ongoing research projects include a study titled "The Effect of Coaching vs. Training among Elementary-level Teachers in the Practice of Early Literacy Instruction in Elementary Classrooms.” Most recently, I began working on a research project that examines the efficacy of an integrated and explicit vocabulary instructional program in supporting early literacy learning, enhanced by teacher training, their responses, and classroom practices.
